COMMUNITY INITIATIVES
Pathways of Impact
As the brain and powering force behind these initiatives, Dr. Reem AlMealla creates platforms where nature, science, and community meet — spaces where knowledge flows, resilience is built, and collective stewardship takes root.

bnature
Bahrain’s first digital environmental encyclopedia — providing open access to species information, biodiversity data, and environmental resources for educators, students, researchers, and the public.
Tadween Citizen Science Platform
The Arabian Peninsula’s first citizen science platform for biodiversity data — empowering communities to document and celebrate local species and ecosystems. This platform was co-created alongside Dr. Dareen Almojil, the first Khaleeji shark specialist.

Finsight Bahrain
A community-driven shark and ray citizen science initiative in Bahrain — engaging fishermen, divers, students, and volunteers in ocean literacy in species monitoring efforts. This programme was co-created alongside Dr. Dareen Almojil, the first Khaleeji shark specialist.
Gulf Women in Environmental Science Network (GWIES)
Founded in 2020 during the isolating early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, GWIES is the first regional platform dedicated to supporting women working in environmental sciences across the Persian-Arabian Gulf. Born from Dr. Reem AlMealla’s personal search for connection and solidarity, GWIES creates a collaborative space where women can share experiences, mentorship, and opportunities — empowering emerging leaders to navigate, thrive, and shape the future of environmental conservation in the region.

NatureXchange
Bahrain’s first environmental career fair — a dynamic platform connecting youth with the people and organizations working directly with nature, including farmers, aquaculturists, fishermen, scientists, and more. NatureXchange offers guidance and inspiration to all who walk through its space, opening pathways into conservation, research, sustainability, and environmental policy fields.
